KITTEN RESCUED FROM DRAIN - March 3, 1998

Eight lives left ... Denton Infield (above), a senior inspector with the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, cradles a kitten that was saved yesterday after being trapped in a drain for a week at the Johannesburg Art Gallery.

The kitten was lifted from its "prison" after being saved by a joint team of plumbers, drain specialists and League workers. A drain-inspection camera, known as a SeeSnake, was used to establish the cat's exact location. The team, led by plumber Ian Consterdine, then used a copper rod and noose to lift the cat out.
